Photo Competition Guidelines

This photography competition, aims to visually convey the profound impact of initiatives focused on governance, disaster risk reduction, and gender-oriented socio-demographic factors. We anticipate this competition will serve as a catalyst, inspiring photographers to craft and share impactful visual narratives. We encourage photographers to showcase the strength of these efforts, inspiring impactful visual narratives that spotlight commendable endeavors in creating more resilient communities.

To facilitate the submission process and the subsequent follow-up process, please consider the following guidelines, information, tips, terms and deadlines mentioned.

All accepted photographs will be showcased through a half-day photo exhibition which will be held in tandem with the international conference.

  • Submission Guidelines

Following these guidelines is crucial because it helps ensure a fair and organized evaluation of all submissions. It also demonstrates your attention to detail and your willingness to comply with the rules set by the competition organizers. This way, your photos can be considered fairly alongside others in the competition.

  • 1. Eligibility:
    • The competition is open to all photographers, both amateur and professional.
    • Photo Competition is open to anyone aged 18 or above, whether you’re a photo enthusiast or a professional photographer.
    • Submissions must align with the themes of Gender, Intersectionality, and Climate Change.

    2. Number of Entries:

    • Participants may submit up to 3 photographs in total. These 3 submissions can be divided between the three themes or all 3 submissions can be for the same theme.
    • Each photo should be a separate submission and constitutes a single entry.

    3. Content Requirements:

    • Photos must reflect the intersection of gender, ethnicity, socio-demographics, disabilities, and other identities in the context of climate change.
    • Highlight diverse impacts, experiences, and adaptation strategies related to gender and climate change.

    4. Technical Specifications:

    • Submit high-resolution images in JPEG or PNG format.
    • Ensure each photo is clear, well-composed, and visually impactful.

    5. Captions:

    • Include a brief caption (max 50 words) for each submission, providing context and relevance to the chosen theme.
    • Captions should enhance the narrative and understanding of the subject.

    6. Originality and Attribution:

    • Submissions must be original works of the participant.
    • If using someone else’s work, provide proper attribution and ensure permission is obtained.

    7. Ethical Considerations:

    • Respect the dignity, privacy, and cultural sensitivities of individuals or communities depicted.
    • Avoid any form of exploitation or misrepresentation.

    8. Submission Format:

    • Submit entries through the button above.
    • Include your name, contact information, and a short bio with each submission.

    9. Deadline:

    • The deadline for submissions deadline is: 1st April, 2024.
    • Late entries will not be considered.

    10. Judging Criteria:

    • Photos will be judged based on creativity, relevance to intersectionality, composition, and overall impact.
    • A diverse panel of judges with expertise in gender, intersectionality, climate change, and photography will evaluate submissions.
    • All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the GICC. Finalists will be chosen based on the following criteria:
      • Creativity
      • Photographic quality
      • Composition
      • Execution of theme

    11. Exhibition and Recognition:

    • All accepted photographs will be showcased through a half-day photo exhibition which will be held in tandem with the international conference.
    • Recognition and awards Best Photographs and runner-up will be given for outstanding submissions.
