- Understanding how climate change affects intersectionality, gendered livelihood patterns and income-generating activities. Gender-responsive risk assessments and transformative response and recovery efforts
- Gender-responsive financial instruments (green/gender bonds, blended finances etc.) for DRR
- Role of community-based communication initiatives in promoting intersectionality, gender-inclusive climate adaptation strategies with a focus on local storytelling, radio programs, and social media campaigns
Gender-oriented Socio-demographic factors for Climate Change Adaptation
- Gender-based mitigation & adaptation through gender, ethnicity, socio-demographics, disabilities, and intersectionality analysis at all stages i.e. projects design, implementation, and evaluation
- Gender specific climate change adaptation programming to address discrimination caused by power dynamics and distribution on resources (intersectional lens)
- Gender-responsive infrastructure and services (including technologies and innovations based adaptation for climate change adaptation
- Gender, health and well-being (women’s health and well-being including maternal health, nutrition reproductive health, and mental health).

The conference on “Gender, Intersectionality and Climate Change” will take place on
September 24-25, 2024, at the Jinnah Auditorium, NUST H-12, Islamabad.
Agenda & Speakers
The conference is a two-day event with a full agenda.
Tuesday, September 24, 2024 🗓️
The first day’s schedule includes a welcome and plenary session, followed by two main themes.
- Welcome and Plenary Session
- Registration is from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
- Dr. Osman Hassan, Pro-Rector Academics at NUST, will give a welcome note.
- Ms. Janine Rohwer, First Secretary of the Economic and Political Section, will give opening remarks.
- A plenary session on Gender & Climate Governance will be moderated by Dr. Rabia Zaid. Speakers include Mr. Asif Sherazi, Ms. Shandana Khan, and Ms. Rabia Khattak.
- Theme 1: Gender, Intersectionality & Climate Change Governance
- The keynote speech will be delivered by Dr. Nausheen Hafeeza Anwar, a professor at the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.
- Paper presentations and discussions will be chaired by Dr. Faisal Jamil and Dr. Wajiha Haq.
- Theme 2: Gender, Intersectionality & Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
- The keynote speaker is Dr. Muhammad Sajjad, Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University’s Department of Geography.
- Paper presentations and discussions will be chaired by Dr. Sumara Masood and Dr. Rabia Zaid.
Wednesday, September 25, 2024 🗓️
The second day’s events include a plenary session, a third theme, and a closing ceremony.
- Plenary Session: Intersectionality in Climate Action
- This session will be moderated by Dr. Sumara Masood.
- Speakers include Ms. Shabnam Baloch, Ms. Saman Ahsan, Dr. Faisal Abbas, and Dr. Muhammad Abid.
- Theme 3: Gender-oriented Socio-demographic Factors for Climate Change Adaptation
- The keynote speech will be given by Dr. Sauleha Kamal from the University of York.
- Paper presentations will be chaired by Dr. Tauqeer Hussain Shah, Dr. Wajiha Haq, and Dr. Faisal Jamil.
- Closing Ceremony
- The ceremony will include remarks from the GIZ Country Director and a Chief Guest.
- Awards will be distributed and acknowledgments will be made by the Rector of NUST.
